Rs 2000 currency notes banned from today
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to stop using ₹2000 notes, but you can still use them to buy things. This type of note was made after the old ₹500 and ₹1000 notes were removed in 2016. By 2018, the RBI had enough other notes and stopped making ₹2000 ones.
Most of the ₹2000 notes were made before March 2017. They usually last about 4-5 years. There were lots more ₹2000 notes before, but now there are less. Not many people use them much, and there are enough other notes for everyone to use.
The RBI wants to keep notes clean and in good shape, so they're taking these ₹2000 notes out of use. They've done this before with other notes in 2013-2014.
You can take your ₹2000 notes to the bank to put them in your account or swap them for other notes. You can swap up to ₹20,000 of them at once starting from May 23, 2023.
Banks will let you do this until September 30, 2023. The RBI has told banks to stop giving out ₹2000 notes now.
So, you have until September 30, 2023, to take your ₹2000 notes to the bank. You can find more information and answers to questions on the RBI's website.
